Substitute Mario Gotze scored the only goal in 112th minute. Both teams missed lots of chances to score a goal in first and second half. Messi had a free kick in the 122nd minute from about 40 yards out. But the ball went out over the bar.
It was the fourth World Cup title for the Germans, and this is the first time a European team has won the World Cup in competition in the Americas.

Germany was the better team as compared to Argentina, in the entire tournament. They played efficiently from start to finish.We can say, this is historic achievement for Germany. After this defeat, people may criticize Lionel Messi for not winning the World Cup title.
